Privacy Policy

Effective 18 October 2026

BillWatch AI (“BillWatch”) is an iPhone and iPad app published by Tarek Al-Talib. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. In short: your bills stay on your device and in your own iCloud account, there is no BillWatch account, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.

Your bills and documents

The bills, line items, documents and photos you add are stored on your device, and the bill details are encrypted there. Reading a bill (text recognition and extraction) happens on your device. We do not operate servers that receive your bills, and we cannot see them.

If iCloud sync is available and turned on, your data is kept in the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account so it can appear on your other devices. That storage is provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and we have no access to it.

Location and weather

Location is optional. If you allow it, or enter a location by hand, BillWatch uses your approximate location to get a weather outlook that adjusts energy-bill forecasts. To do this it sends approximate coordinates to Apple Weather and, if that is unavailable, to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com). These services receive the coordinates and your device's IP address as part of the request. No name, account or bill information is sent with it. You can turn location off at any time in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.

Purchases

BillWatch Plus is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your payment details. The app checks your subscription status with Apple on your device.

Permissions

Camera (to scan paper bills), Photos (to import images you pick), Face ID or Touch ID (for the optional App Lock) and notifications (for due-date and bill alerts) are used only on your device for those purposes. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device.

What we do not do

BillWatch has no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Keeping, exporting and deleting your data

Your data stays until you delete it. In the app, Settings → Data & Privacy lets you export everything as JSON and CSV files, or delete everything on the device. Deleting the app also removes the data stored on the device. Data in your iCloud account can be removed from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.

Children

BillWatch is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
